Looks like I've got 3 of the other 4 guys convinced to go to LA. My dad is the only hold out... apparently "he used to take offshore trips with guys 10 years ago and it only cost him $250 for the whole trip"... and "$900 is a lot of damn money for a fish"...and "LA is a long ride"...

I told him to just make sure his azz is ready to roll when I knock on his door.

Out of everyone I asked and talked to, Venice was the overwhelming #1 choice.

Most years, Venice is a really cool place in October. Historically a storm comes around that time, or a little before, and gives the marsh a good douching. Following the increased salinity the trout and bait will move to the inside. The saltwater will also kill a lot of the grass and make the fishing a little easier for those who don't just throw popping corks off points. October is one of the driest months of the year which causes the mouth of the Mississippi to turn green and fill up with fish. Conversely, November is one of the wettest months and will turn the river to chocolate milk. Tuna should be close and bull reds should be thick.

There likely will not be any crawfish to enjoy that time of year, the brown shrimp down there taste like shit unless you cover them in cocktail sauce, and you'll need a slice of white bread for the oysters because they're so big.

Venice is awesome, but don't build it up too much in your mind. It is a long way from NOLA and it is still fishing.

Cypress cove is nicer than Venice Marina, but I like the latter more.

I think there is a Dollar General in Venice and Buras. There is a grocery store just north of Port Sulphur and hardware/grocery store in Buras called Happyland. Other than these stores and a few other little shops there isn't much past Belle Chase.

This is the most important advice in this thread! Get your supplies before you get to Venice....
