Default Tough season in KY

Started my season out at Land Between the Lakes on the KY side. I never really got a gobbler to work, and neither did the other two guys I was hunting with.

Opening day I had two gobblers at 25 yards, but the brush was too thick for a shot. Several hunts into the season, and I had nothing to show. Birds would gobble on the roost, and then not make another sound all day.

Finally, on Good Friday, in a downpour, I called in a silent 2 year old bird at 1:30pm. He never made a sound. Had an 11 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. The temperature was a balmy 45 degrees that day.

Last Sunday, I called in another silent 2 year old, got excited, and pulled the shot. I could see the wad fly right over his head. He lived to gobble another day.

This weekend is the last weekend of hunting here in KY, and the weather is supposed to be miserable. I'm glad I harvested at least one bird this season.

LBL was pretty tough on us this year. 4 of us hunted pretty hard for 5 days when the weather permitted us and we killed 1 bird. What few birds we did hear wouldnt work at all. I almost got lucky on an afternoon field bird but his hen had other plans.

We hunted two days, and I only heard 2 shots total at LBL. Toughest time I've ever had getting on birds down there.

My buddies from here were there as well. They got 1 but hunted their tails off and their gobbling activity was similar to yours. Congrats on your bird!
