Default .410 auto?

I'm looking for something my girls can turkey hunt with. Reynolds is too small(weak) for a pump, so I was thinking may a .410 auto. Anybody know of a good one?

You can find Remington 1100s from time to time. Any specific reason you're wanting an auto?

I could get a single shot, but I also want to have something that she/I can use as she gets older. Her little sister too.

I would think a Rem 1100 / 11-87 in a 20Ga would be the perfect youth gun

Mack,
Get away from the 410 and get the 20. The 410 isn't a gun to learn how to shoot moving targets and will frustrate them. Heck the 410 is often the decision maker on most competitions.

I've got a youth model 20. The very first gun I ever had. I guess I could just get a recoil pad for it and let them shoot dove loads. Inside 20 yards it won't matter anyway.

Get you a mercury recoil reducer installed in the stock and it will tame it down for them. Be sure and make them wear earmuffs too. I think the noise scares kids as much as the recoil.

You could also get an over/under .410.
If you decide to go with the 20ga I don't think she would feel the recoil in the heat of the moment. When my girl was 10 she used a 20ga but practiced with bird shot and when we hunted I slid a turkey load in, she never knew the difference.

How old are your daughters? A 410 with a 3” 13/16oz load of TSS 9.5’s is deadly with a full choke out to 40yds. Some guys are getting solid 50yd guns with custom made turkey chokes.

A Yildiz 410 is cheap and they perform great with TSS. You can buy .410 TSS loads commercially now too.

Here's one that should be pretty decent.

That's a gun I just picked up for my boys. Shoots pretty decent patterns with the TSS according to the previous owner. Looking forward to trying it out this season.
